Design Guidelines for Shelving

Mounting Height Recommendation
When specifying the height of your unit, it is important to consider the clearance that you want to maintain between the bottom of your unit and the surface below.
The following are our suggested guidelines for typical clearances between our units and the surfaces below:
- Kitchen Counter: 18-24"
- Kitchen Island: 24-30"
- Kitchen Sink: 24-30"
- Bathroom Vanity: 18"
- Bar Counter: 18"
- Bar Sink: 24"
- Desk: 24"
- Console Table: 18-24"

Minimum Height for Units
When deciding the overall height and quantity of shelves, it is important to understand how much room you will have above your top shelf and how usable that will be. The following are recommended minimum heights for typical installations, based on the number of shelves selected and the location of the horizontal support bar if the unit is ceiling mounted or wall mounted.
Recommended Minimum Overall Height
- 1 Shelf | Ceiling Mounted: 18"
- 1 Shelf | Wall Mounted: 22"
- 2 Shelves | Ceiling Mounted: 31"
- 2 Shelves | Wall Mounted: 34"
- 3 Shelves | Ceiling Mounted: 43"
- 3 Shelves | Wall Mounted: 47"

Please let us know if you are planning to mount to a mirror or glass as this may require a custom solution outside of our Quick Ship capabilities but well within Amuneal's custom shelving offerings.

Blocking Requirements
We use the term “blocking” to refer to wood supports that have been fastened within your wall or ceiling framing members, for the purpose of providing attachment support for our shelving. Blocking can take many different forms, but we recommend at least ¾” plywood blocking to support wall mounted units
and 1½” blocking to support ceiling hung units. As a rule of thumb, if you didn’t specifically ask for blocking to be installed by your contractor, you should assume that you don’t have it. As long as proper blocking is in place, Amuneal's Collector's Shelving can hold hundreds of pounds. -

Our shelving framework is fabricated from solid bronze bar and tube to provide you with the highest quality product, but that also makes it pretty heavy! These units are much easier and safer to mount with at least two people, especially for first time installers. Amuneal's Quick Ship Units range in weight from 80lbs - 170lbs.
Care + Maintenance
-
After Installation
Once installed, the only care required for these units is routine cleaning. All the metal components are sealed and protected with a lacquer finish. However, since this finish is susceptible to degradation when exposed to ammonia-based cleaners, it is important to avoid applying glass cleaners directly to the metal.
-
Maintaining Metal
For cleaning the metal elements of the shelving units, we suggest a damp, lint-free or microfiber cloth. In the case of a spill or to remove other surface stains, a mild soap solution can be used for cleaning the metal components.
-
Glass Shelves
When cleaning your glass shelves, we recommend that the cleaner be applied to a clean cloth and then used to wipe your shelves.
